Why Play Therapy
Play therapy is a unique and powerful form of therapy designed specifically to help children process and communicate their thoughts, emotions, needs, and experiences. Since play is a child’s natural way of expressing themselves, the play therapy room provides a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental space where children can explore their feelings, work through challenges, and build healthier coping skills.
Through play, children make sense of their experiences, learn about themselves, and develop tools to navigate the world around them.
This approach is particularly beneficial for children who may find it difficult to express themselves verbally or who are facing challenges such as:
-
Anxiety or excessive worry.
-
Behavioral difficulties.
-
Trauma or stressful life events.
-
Grief or loss.
-
Family transitions, such as divorce or relocation.
In the play therapy room, children engage in carefully chosen activities and materials—such as toys, art supplies, imaginative play, and sand tray therapy. These tools create opportunities for meaningful exploration that promotes emotional healing, growth, and self-discovery.
What Play Therapy Can Achieve
With a supportive, child-centered approach, play therapy helps children:
-
Develop emotional awareness and regulation.
-
Strengthen problem-solving and coping skills.
-
Build self-esteem and confidence.
-
Enhance communication and relationships with others.
-
Process and heal from trauma or difficult experiences.
-
Understand and express unmet emotional needs.
Play therapy allows children to express what they might not yet have the words for, empowering them to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and confidence.
"Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning."

About me
Hi, I'm Zandri Bester. Supporting children and their families as they navigate through life’s ups and downs is something I feel deeply passionate about.
I believe in the resilience and adaptability of the human spirit. Given the right environment and support, these natural strengths can grow and thrive. My approach is centered on creating a safe, nurturing space where children can explore their challenges, discover their strengths, and move toward meaningful growth.
Each child brings something special, and I find joy in learning to understand their unique world and helping them grow in ways that feel natural and empowering. Seeing children discover their strengths and overcome difficulties is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do.
I hold an Honours degree in Psychology (cum laude) and have formal training in Play-Based Interventions, which have equipped me with the knowledge and tools to support personal growth and emotional well-being. Through my informal experience working with neurodiverse and traumatized children over the past few years, I’ve gained invaluable lessons about the importance of flexibility and genuine connection.
Continuous learning is important to me. I’m dedicated to deepening my knowledge and skills through ongoing education, ensuring I stay informed about the best practices and interventions to support my clients at Zandri Therapy Services effectively.
I'm looking forward to our journey. :)
